Many graduates of the Certificate in Coaching have reported a significant influence on their workplace conversations and leadership style. When you complete this qualification, you are eligible to serve on the internal coaching panel in your local authority, or to use the skills in daily workplace conversations with staff, stakeholders and the public.
Who Should Consider This Programme?
This course has been completed by 400 Local Authority staff since 2024.
As requested by LGMA and Local Authorities, this course is specifically for Grade 8 and above within Local Government. This ensures grade appropriate conversations, and how to translate the coaching modality into a modern, effect leadership style. It also helps with collaborative and engaging conversations in the workplace about project delivery, stakeholder engagement, technical leadership, and organisational development.
About the Certificate in Coaching
A QQI Level 6 Certificate in Professional Coaching Practice & Ethics, jointly run by Kingstown College and the LGMA for Local Authority staff. Ideal for managers, supervisors, team leads, project/stakeholder leaders, HR personnel, and technical professionals looking to enhance their people‑development and leadership skills.

Participants will learn to:
- Differentiate coaching from mentoring and performance management
- Develop advanced listening skills for coaching conversations
- Use powerful questioning to facilitate reflection and insight
- Apply structured coaching models (e.g. GROW, Coaching/Performance Wheel)
- Navigate values and beliefs in coaching dialogue

- One-to-One Coaching vs. Mentoring
- Positive Psychology & Appreciative Inquiry techniques
- GROW Model & Coaching Wheel
- Structuring Effective Coaching Conversations
- Exploring Values, Beliefs & Coaching Dialogue for Engagement
Delivery Format & Schedule
- 6 full days of live, interactive training via Zoom (10:00 – 16:00)
- Held every second week, with multiple weekday options (Thursday or Friday)
- Includes breakout rooms for paired practice and group discussion
- Recommended 1 day study leave for coursework
Assessment & Coursework
- Reading Assignment: Review one designated coaching text
- Coaching Practice: Complete 4 sessions as coach and 4 as client with peers
- Reflective Essay: 2,000-word submission on learning journey
- Performance Evaluation: A 30-minute recorded coaching session assessed by Kingstown College assessors.
- Final submission deadline typically 6 weeks after the last class
Course Fee
- EUR 1500
- Course fee is paid via your Local Authority but you must be approved by your manager/HR.
