Establishing and Maintaining the Coaching Agreement

Apr 29, 2022 | Professional Development

Recently we hosted a webinar about the Coaching Agreement. How do we have the conversation? What are the phrases we can use to politely and ethically navigate the coaching relationship within the agreed boundaries? Did we create the best agreement in the first place?

Here are a few of the key takeaways from the webinar

  1. Think about the coaching agreement as ‘managing expectations’ for the coach and the coachee
  2. Take responsibility for the agreement. If you notice the word should in anything you’re thinking about the coachee, it may indicate something wasn’t agreed as effectively as it could have been
  3. Revisit the agreement as necessary. For example, bad time-keeping by the coachee is an opportunity to revisit the original agreement and offer to change it, rather than remaining frustrated. In the video you will hear an example of how you might say this to your client
